1965-66 Seatbelt Retractor Installation

  1. Wind retractor clockwise 7-8 full turns. While winding, be careful to hold retractor firmly in hand.
  2. Turn belt over with opposite hand. Push belt under tabs. Position retractor in the middle of the outboard webbing. (Figures 1 & 2)
  3. Position retractor squarely with belt and crimp tabs securely against belt webbing. (Figure 3)
  4. Check for proper operation of retractor and make and adjustment required.

Installation Notes:

  • If it is necessary to rewind retractor, do not exceed 9 full turns.
  • Caution, do not install retractor to the buckle half of the belt.

Use of belt:

  • Seatbelt must be fully extended when in use. Pull belt so it is fully unwound from retractor, then connect belt and make adjustment at the buckle for proper fit.

1967 Seat Track Roller Installation

  1. Remove the seat track from seat frame.
  2. Position the track so that you are looking at the bottom (View A). Slide inner track toward the front, so that you can access the dimple on the outer case. Remove the dimple that is located just inside of the hole by striking with a blunt punch and hammer.
  3. Turn over the seat track (View B), and slide the inner track toward the rear. Be careful to catch both roller wheels and the old guides as they fall out.
  4. Slide the inner track all the way to the front and put the roller in place and install the guides into the slots, one on each side.
  5. Now slide the track back towards the rear, and install the guides and roller at this end.
  6. Re-punch the dimple so that the roller cannot advance past it.
  7. Re-install seat track to seat frame.

1964-67 Parking Brake Pawl & Spring Installation

  1. While the spring and pawls can be replaced on the car, it is much easier to remove the handle assembly from the car first.
  2. Remove the stop pin by lining up the stop pin with the access hole and using a flat punch to drive the pin out from the bottom access hole. Do not twist the stop pin to try and remove it or it will break due the knurling on the pin.
  3. Remove the handle shaft, the old pawls and the spring from their tube.
  4. Place the new pawls in their slot as per illustration and place the new spring over the tabs as you slide the pawl in place.
  5. Holding the pawls up, re-insert the handle and tap the stop pin into place.

1957-62 Muncie 4-Speed Linkage Installation

The 4-Speed transmission gearshift linkage utilizes three shift rods and levers. A simple gauge block will aid in making the proper adjustments. The adjustments can be made without the gauge block by having an assistant hold the manual shift lever in the neutral positions. Remove transmission gearshift lever seal from the floor pan.

  1. Place transmission in neutral and install gauge block in position as shown in illustration.
  2. Remove the cotter pin, anti-rattle washer and clevis pin at each shift lever.
  3. On each shift rod, adjust the threaded clevis to permit free entry on the clevis pin into the hole in the transmission shift lever.
  4. Reconnect the clevises to the shift levers.
  5. Remove the gauge block and check the shifts. If any roughness still exists, one of the clevises may require adjustment of approximately one-half turn. Determine the rod and clevis requiring adjustment by sighting along the slot where the gauge block was used in step 2.
